In 2005 Zodiac Aerospace, industry leaders in innovative seat design, approached JPA Design to create an innovative new seating platform. The result was the Cirrus Business Class seat, a unique and adaptable achievement in product design, and it’s impossible to overestimate the impact this breakthrough has had on the airline business since. First employed on JPA’s project with US Airways and then with Cathay Pacific immediately after, the design resolves the conundrum of direct aisle access and greater privacy. The reverse herringbone design is now widely regarded as the most ergonomic and desirable configuration, a benchmark for Business Class cabins worldwide. Since it first appeared, the reverse-herringbone configuration has been a fundamental part of the offerings of more than a fifteen international carriers around the world. Cirrus went on to become Zodiac Aerospace’s best-selling Business Class seat.
JPA configured the herringbone layout to make it possible for Business Class passengers to enjoy greater privacy, with a window view for single seats, and more opportunity to socialize with a travelling companion in the centre seats. Either choice gives all passengers direct aisle access, with easier access, too, for cabin crews to serve passengers more elegantly and discreetly.
